The Lordenshaw area has the largest concentration of rock carvings in Northumberland with over 100 examples recorded in an area of less than 2.5 sq km. There are many other interesting archaeological features in this area: Bronze Age cairns, ancient field boundaries, an Iron Age hillfort with hut circles, and a medieval deer park wall. The hill offers great views across Coquetdale. For a more extensive panorama you may enjoy a walk up the slopes of Simonside, which dominates the other side of the valley.
